Mālama Kanaloa Festival Ocean Day

Ocean Day 2014

Ocean dayOcean day

Thanks to the efforts of our presenters, volunteers and program partners, since 2007 UH Hilo has provided an interactive opportunity for our community to learn and share about oceans, coastal resources, research and traditional knowledge related to island resources. Our 2013 event had over 2,300 attendees and this year’s Festival will again be a fun-enriching event with games, interactive displays, ʻono food and live entertainment. Join us at Hilo Bayfront Beach Park on Sunday, March 9th from 10:00am-3:00pm!

Event Goals

The Ocean Day Mālama Kanaloa Festival is an educational community event, open to everyone. The Event aims to:

  1. Raise public awareness of the impact people have on the ocean environment;
  2. Promote ways of living that favor conservation of marine habitats and sustainability of resources in a culturally sensitive way; and
  3. Communicate the outcomes of current ocean and coastal research, management, education efforts and how they impact communities here in Hawaiʻi.
