Traveling STEAM Days
Enviroscience activities & lessons brought to your classroom or organization!
Developed by the Pacific Island Programs for Exploring Science (PIPES), Traveling STEAM is a UH Hilo outreach program designed to encourage interest, excitement, and confidence within STEAM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) for youths in grades K – 6. PIPES works with UH Hilo faculty, staff, and student volunteers to provide enriching experiences for the classroom and after school programs via fun activities and lessons for keiki!

Volunteer with PIPES!
Volunteer programs provide a variety of service learning opportunities for college students via outreach efforts in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math for the whole community. Although programs are directed towards areas of STEM fields, one does not need to be a science or technology major to volunteer!!
Provide service to your community, have fun, and gain valuable skills! Trainings are 1-2 hours in length. Event commitments range from 2 hours and up. Opportunities are available all year round!
No experience needed! All majors encouraged, many opportunities to choose from small or large projects, staff outreach booths, support and help implement youth programs in science, technology, engineering, art and math.
There are many skills we seek volunteers with OR that can be developed while volunteering with PIPES. For example, volunteers are needed with experience or an interest in: Event photography, communications, journalism, project coordination, teaching, working with kids, social media, all of the sciences, technology, implementing surveys, Hawaiian language and more. Additionally we seek volunteers to help provide tours of UH Hilo labs and research facilities, experience leading groups of people, graphic design, website design and management, community outreach, and overall programmatic support.
